Some News

Posted on: June 30, 2009

Hey guys. Not alot of news has been coming out since they’re on tour right now, but here’s what I’ve compiled in the past couple of days.

Yesterday, it was announced that RS5 will be participating in Adidas’s campaign, “60 YEARS OF SOLES AND STRIPES.” They will be releasing a remix of Good Day called “Good Day-adidas Original Remix by DJ FUMIYA.” It will only be available for cell phone use on July 15th of course. >:[ There might be a commercial/clip involved for this, I’m not sure. Rip Slyme has worked with Adidas several times before; in 2004, they had tracksuits specially made for them during the MASTERPIECE tour, then last New Year’s Eve, they donned a grey-and-blue tracksuit, and then finally they wore shoes and tracksuits at the Osaka school graduation surprise. Normally I don’t care too much for alot of RS5 remixes (except for ones done by our boys), but seeing as how this will be done by our very own Fu-chan, I’m excited for it. =D Source is here.

New Years Eve @ Countdown Japan 08/09, from one of the many RO69 blogs, I can’t remember which. Btw, if you scroll down enough on this blog, you’ll be able to find some happy shots of the guys. :)

The boys were on Music Lovers last Sunday. I completely forgot to tell you guys about it and by the time I remembered, it was too late. :/ It was on NTV, which is one of the permanant channels on Keyholetv, meaning you were able to see it. I got to watch it and it was enjoyable, despite the shitty keyhole quality. It was about 22 minutes long. Music Lovers doesn’t get uploaded as often, most likely because it usually features only one artist the whole show.

The show opened up with Rakuen Baby, the boys wearing their Good Day outfits. They struck a pose during “Wonderful time…” as Pes sang along to some of it. I’ve never seen him sing this part before, and I figured it was because his voice was too high or something, but he sounded pretty good and sang it a little differently. After that, they talked with the three co-hosts (all girls), and some random quiet guy was there with them. Everyone seemed really happy and they were laughing alot. Shortly after that, they started doing Taiyou to Bikini and its dance, but as soon as they finished Ryo-Z’s verse, I realized it was a medley, as they immediately switched into Rock’n’ Roll Radio! They started out with Ilmari and Su’s verses after the chorus, which is fine with me, because I love Ilmari’s verse in this song. I can’t remember if they changed songs after Su or if they did the chorus again, but after that they went into Nettaiya. They did Pes and Su’s verses and of course the Nettaiya dance. Everyone in the audience was dancing too. Afterwards, they talked a bit more. They made Ilmari beatbox! Hahahha. Ryo-Z was freestyling to it; “R to the I to the P to the S…”, similar to “By the Way.” They all started dancing in their seats again, except for Pes, who was laughing the whole time. Then, they did Good Day, Su dragging one of the co-hosts to the stage and making her do the dance with them. Finally, they performed the love & hate chorus during the ending credits. Next time they do something like this, I’ll try to remind you guys if it’s available on Keyhole.

Speaking of Good Day, man did I miss the ball on that one! The guest singer is actually Sonomi Tameoka. My apologies to Hirotaka Mori. :p Sonomi is on tour with them right now, and has a blog with backstage pics from the tour, mostly of Fumiya, so you should keep an eye on it. Here are some goodies she took:

Devil Su…with the hair of an angel.

Ilmari celebrating his birthday…click for a bigger picture.

I found some setlists from their tour. The first is from the first concert, and the second is of Ilmari’s birthday. They brought in a cake and sang! Also, they seem to have brought back “Rock it!” They also did Super Shooter during the encore in the second concert…never thought they’d do that again. I wonder if they did an MJ tribute? I know Ryo-Z is a huge Michael Jackson fan, as seen in the Lovi video, and is presumably mourning for one of his favorite singers.

Ok, so I was listening to Hitchhike Girl with my headphones, and after the dialogue, I SWEAR I can hear Pes singing in the background! Especially at the end of “sayonara kako wo keseru onna!”, you can hear a voice in the background doing a cute high pitched finish! I googled it and I think some other blogs mentioned it…but I could be wrong, Su could’ve done it and then digitally altered it. :p It sounds like Pessy though! Also, alot of websites are saying that Ilmari didn’t write any lyrics for Journey or Beauty Focus. Hmm, that’s odd. Well, the boy has been awful busy this year.

Oh hey, sorry about not putting Minute Maid in Ilmari’s bday playlist. That song is all him and I can’t believe I forgot it. :(

I made a rehashed version of my old “composition post” (some of you probably don’t know), I just gotta straighten out my sources and then I’ll put it up.

Finally, check out this video message the guys made for the upcoming MTV VIBRATIONS ’09 concert. Click on RIP SLYME. PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON PES AND HIS PLACEMENT THROUGHOUT. I REALLY can’t get over how cute and adorable he is! I love watching him dance and bounce around and rap, and even just STANDING THERE. I’m SO glad he dropped his “little renegade” image from back in the day. Btw, he took off his hat at the end of Music Lovers, and he seems to have a boyish haircut now, similar to the Nettaiya days, but shorter.

ok that’s it tata for now SEE SOME OF YOU TOMORROW WINK WINK ^_~

edit 6/24: SORRY, the oricon tv interview/message shit was working last time I checked! ugh I’m so mad about it because it was so cute! The clip was of Pes talking about their new Cut It Now! dvd. Ilmari walks by in the background, notices, and starts waving to the camera frantically without Pes’s knowing. Ilmari climbs on top of the bushes, causing Pes to finally realize he’s there and laughs. Ilmari then runs over next to him and just gives a big goofy smile to the camera, then walks off. :p

ETA: I ADDED MORE PICS AND STUFF

Hey guys! Our gorgeous rapper turns 34 today! This part-Finnish part-Japanese mc was actually born in FINLAND. Well, you already knew that. Ilmari’s probably having a really stressful year so far; there’s the new TB album (which he is the “Leader” of), the TB tour, filming PVs, break-ups and very personal gossip, the new RS5 album, and finally the RS5 tour. Actually, he’s got a concert to do today, so he gets to celebrate and hopefully relax a little with hundreds of fans! Looking at more recent pictures, Ilmari seems to have lost a lot of weight. The boy was NEVER chubs, but he was never super thin or built like Pes or Su. Maybe he’s always been this thin, I just haven’t seen many pics of him in a tight shirt or whatever. :p We’re here to celebrate this day Ilmari! We love you and your husky voice and your amazing delivery among other things hehehe…sometimes when I’m watching a video I can’t stop staring at his beautiful face. :p I wonder if the guys actually call him Keisuke in real life…Fumiya referred to him as Keisuke on his blog recently.

Some Ilmari-themed songs for today?

Island – Ilmari co-wrote this with Hirotaka Mori, and he sang the chorus. I like this song alot! “Please?!” :)

Valon (w/ Salyu) – Ok, so the our music performance of this song is the best. :D I love watching him sing Salyu’s part to himself! Also because he looked really cute in the original music video. :x

Mata au Hi Made – Well, Ilmari’s the one opening the song and he’s the one most audible in the chorus. Isn’t that enough? :p

Zannen Boy – Ilmari’s duet with Pes from the FUNFAIR album. He co-wrote it with Yu-ki Nakamura. Check out the FUNFAIR TOUR dvd where him and Pes are playfighting!

StroboX – Ilmari pretty much killed it with this song! :D His grunts and yeahs in the background are so good! rofl

DISCO-MMUNICATION – I like hearing Ilmari chime “u-n-i-t-y” in the background during the chorus. unityyy~

HOME – Another great Ilmari-composed song. Pes did the guitar though.

Taiyou to Bikini – His dancing in the beginning of the video where Pes says the line “koi kogarete shin de shimai sou…” makes me SO weirdly happy everytime I see it. :’) Ilmari’s so cute d’awww! Also, I really love his outro in this song.

Case 4 Bring your style – Ilmari’s solo in the TOKYO CLASSIC album. This song used to be my aim screen name back in 8th grade LOL.

slowdown – The way he sounds in this song is almost as if he’s coming on to you. Which isn’t a bad thing. :9 Everytime it comes on I always skim over to his part!

Journey – I feel as if recently Ilmari is starting to take over Pes’s “chorus boy” (as we deemed him in the lj community) duties! Ilmari is the lead and heart of this song! He sounds lovely, and yes I now approve of the autotune. :p

Watch out ! feat. JUNGLIST YOUTHS – See what I mean as the new chorus boy? Well, Pes is still doing the other chorus, but yeah. :p

Beauty Focus – Chorus boy again! Like Karu said, he did such a great job in this song, specifically in the chorus. I can’t stop listening to it because of him! It’s been on repeat ever since I got the album. ♥ Btw is he saying “ah flameout” after “ah playback”?

Mellow Morrow – Another Pes and Ilmari duet, he wrote this with Hirotaka Mori.

GALAXY – When they do it live, he sings Nami Miyahara’s part (“move on, babe if you got it”), and it’s so cute! Ahhh <3

Asayake Surround – I like the way he sings his verse in this version (maybe they both used the same voice track idk), it’s very pretty.

Supreme – Ok I know Pes sings the chorus but Ilmari completely made this song. I mean, they ALL sound amazing in it, but his part with Nami Miyahara? INCREDIBLE. Alot of the time I fast forward to his part, and when he’s finished I skip over to the next song. I know I said he sounded “horrendous” in the lj comm in this “version” (lol if you’ve been around here enough you’ll know), but that was back when I was convinced the radio rip was dominant, which it certainly is not (I still thought he sounded hot in the radio rip, but now I realize it’s too high)! Ilmari sounds so romantic, sensual, and hot. I melt everytime I listen to it.

WHAT’S UP?~HOW’RE YOU DOIN’? – Oh Ilmari and his crazy beatbox skills.

WHY – I think this was my first glimpse of Ilmari singing. It’s probably my favorite part of the song actually.

Rakuen Baby – Wonderful time, it’s precious time…I know alot of people love this, and I do too!

One (CHRISTMAS CLASSIC version) – idk I just thought he did really great in this version of One, compared to the original.

UNPLUGGED – This has to be one of my favorite RS5 songs; actually, it’s sitting on top of my last.fm charts. Supreme actually belongs at #1 but I deleted the radio rip from my library, and that’s why it’s #2. Ilmari wrote this with Hirotaka Mori, and I must say, they did a pretty damn good job with this one. Especially that outro, which, I know is Pes, but still.

PICSPAM YOU KNOW YOU WANT HIM

So, what did you guys think about the album? Please be constructive no bashing kthx :D Oh btw they’re officially on tour now! The first one was yesterday, and the next concert will be on Wednesday…Ilmari’s birthday!

Intro – Nothing to say about this, except I’m sure that that’s Nami Miyahara saying “Journey”, since it sounds like her and she’s fluent in english.

Good Day – It’s a brand new day! I still don’t know who’s singing that, not sure if it’s Hirotaka Mori anymore since he didn’t mention anything on his blog or site. Anyway, it’s a good song, and the dancing in the music video was superb. I love Fumiya’s scratch at the beginning.

Taiyou to Bikini – I still love this song. Fumiya has said in various interviews last year that they’re emulating the Beach Boys here. I think this is what they said of their summer songs: Rakuen Baby is the afternoon, Taiyou to Bikini is around the end of the day/sunset, and Nettaiya is nighttime. The chorus and Ilmari’s outro are my favorite. Actually, RS5 is pretty good with outros; Today and UNPLUGGED, anyone?

Rock’n’ Roll Radio – This song is okay for me. I only listen to it when it’s in my head to be honest, haha. It reminds me very much of I-N-G. The chorus is fun to sing along to.

Do it ! – The chorus is kinda catchy, but in general, I’m rather indifferent to it. :/ Pes is really cute in the chorus though. Maybe it’ll take awhile for me to get into it. I’m actually listening to it right now, and I think I’ll eventually like it more later.

Journey – This song is doing pretty good on itunes right now. When I first heard it on Rip Locks, I thought, “auto-tune? really?” but I don’t mind so much anymore. They didn’t overdo it and they used it right! Pes knocked it out of the park with his rap, and the chorus is really pretty. I still don’t think the auto-tune was necessary as I believe that Ilmari could’ve sung it fine, but I think they used it to continue the whole “60s-present” theme of the album, and auto-tune is all the rage right now. I’m not listening to it as much as I thought I would though, which I used to think it was because of the auto-tune, but I just realized it’s because I’ve been leaving another certain song on repeat…

love & hate – Look, I really like this song. Ilmari and Ryo-Z were so great with their verses, and the chorus is catchy. HOWEVER, did they really have to repeat the chorus so many times afterwards? Let’s count…FOUR TIMES. During all of that extra time, they could’ve stuck in Su, who would’ve fit in perfectly with the song! They already opened the song with it too! Ignoring all of that, it’s a cute song. :p I love the lyrics, especially Ilmari’s “Hollaback!” and Ryo-Z’s “I’m gonna knock you out! Mama say knock you out!” lol. The digital single version ended with the chorus fading out, the b-side version ended with a drumroll, and the album version fades out after the chorus has finished. Make up your mind! love you~

Watch out ! feat. JUNGLIST YOUTHS – When I heard that there were going to be more collaborations, I was worried. I’ve enjoyed Hirotaka Mori and Verbal among others, but I couldn’t stand the song they did with SchaDaraParr on the EPOCH album. I know that’s not exactly constructive, but it’s literally the only song in my RS5 library that I don’t like. Well, I like the speaking part, I’ll give them that. It also took me months to start liking the collaborations on the FUNFAIR album. But this is JOURNEY we’re talking about, and MAN do I LOVE this song! Pes’s chorus is so samba-esque, and I’m loving Ilmari’s singing in here too! Junglist Youths did a pretty good job in it too! I think I might actually like this more than Party People. This song gets me pumped up right from the beginning, with the music elevating in the background while JY is doing their introduction or whatever. I don’t see how you can’t dance to this. :)

Here comes the Hero feat. Tortoise Matsumoto – I didn’t think I’d like this song as much as I do now after hearing the sample on itunes, since I’m not a very blues-person. Ryo-Z and Pes were so fantastic in it! This is one of those songs you kick back with when you’re chilling. I especially like Pes’s verse. Pes has come such a long way from RS5’s early days; if you didn’t notice, which you should’ve, Pes’s voice used to be a lot higher back in the day. He didn’t start rapping/singing the way he does now until around their collaboration with Quruli. I’m glad he relaxed/lowered his voice because it sounds a LOT better.

Hitchhike Girl – It’s not a favorite, but I do enjoy the 60s/beach theme to it, it’s something I can dance to. :D I love Su and Ilmari’s dialogue and their delivery, even though I don’t know what they’re saying. Su wrote this song with someone else, which is interesting because most of his songs have an oriental feel to it, while this doesn’t. I also like how soft Ilmari’s voice is in such an upbeat song hahaha.

SPLASH – Hey baby, kirakira no lady?! I like this song, but one b-side is enough to be quite honest. I guess they had to stick it on here though, since they made a pv for it. I love how “sensual” Su and Pes sound, it’s like they’re hitting on someone!

STAIRS – Wise and a couple of other guys made an appearance in the big chorus. I really like the opening guitar. The pv was sweet but boring to be honest, but I guess that was all they could muster up in the middle of Ryo-Z and Ilmari’s TB tour schedule. Didn’t I already say I love this song? At first I was very “oh” towards it, but I couldn’t stop listening to it. I LOVED the arrangement of the big chorus on Music Fair with the guitar and just RS5, I swear they should rerecord the song just to include that.

Beauty Focus – I am so glad that I didn’t hear this song until I got the album, it was absolutely worth the wait. It’s my favorite new song off of the album. If you miss old school RS5 (I’m talking 2001-2003, not SUPER old school lol), then this is the song for you. Think TOKYO CLASSIC. Interestingly enough, TC is not my favorite album and I don’t listen to it that much. Again, I believe that’s Nami Miyahara singing with Ilmari. I love the chorus so much! It’s very romantic and charming. See? Ilmari doesn’t need an auto-tuner! I love how they incorporated a duet within every verse. I also really like the way they say “afureru kimochi omowazu”, and “nanto demo again again again.” This song has been on repeat ever since I got the album. :)~

I thought I’d be listening to the album alot more, but I have heard alot of the songs before and overplayed them. :p Overall, I really like this album. I just wish it were longer. For once, there are no instrumentals in it besides the introduction.
